Who pays for UNH jail? Lock up the drunks, but not for free

It is no doubt a good thing that University of New Hampshire police send some heavily intoxicated students to sober up at the county jail, rather than release them to do real damage to themselves or others. UNH Police Chief Paul Dean said turning such students over to their dormitory resident assistants is placing an extreme burden on an RA.

Boston.com item over the weekend showed good Samaritans standing in the middle of a road in the middle of the night. They were next to a young man who had apparently fallen down dead drunk and could easily have been run over.
