Parks, welfare get relief from state budget veto, but partisan sparks fly

State parks will stay open, welfare checks can get cashed and the disabled will avoid waiting lines for services, but this happy ending only came after a contentious marathon meeting of the Legislative Fiscal Committee on Thursday.
State agency heads didn’t get all of the $77 million in added or transferred spending they had requested from the committee. They all wanted to be exempt from restrictions contained in a continuing resolution (CR) governing spending after Gov. Chris Sununu vetoed the state budget.
