NH Primary Source: House Democratic, GOP leaders in stalemate over business taxes, session deadlines

The remainder of the stalled 2020 House session was thrown into limbo Wednesday when top Democratic and Republican leaders could not agree on extending deadlines for the session and on a GOP plan to keep current business tax rates in place for two more years.

The two issues are intertwined. The powerful House Rules Committee, composed of six majority Democrats and four minority Republicans, met remotely to consider Democratic Speaker Steve Shurtleff’s plan to extend the critical deadlines and Republican leader Richard Hinch’s plan to delay likely business tax hikes during from January until 2023 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic downturn.
