Gov. Chris Sununu’s new guidelines to reopen the state’s economy allow restaurants to start serving meals outdoors on May 18, but Portsmouth restaurateurs say the economic feasibility of that model depends on a litany of variables, some as capricious as the weather.
Rising food costs, restaurant size, type and location, and how much federal, state and city governments are willing to help, all come into play. There is also the potential of lower demand in a battered economy.
