Longtime housing expert and Republican activist Pamela Patenaude resigned as the No. 2 official in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development this week, citing a desire to return to her native New Hampshire.

Patenaude, a Bedford native and resident of Moultonborough, was nominated by President Donald Trump as Deputy Secretary of HUD in April 2017 and was confirmed to the post by the U.S. Senate in September of that year.
