The U.S., thanks to Gen. George S. Patton’s troops, beat back a surprise German attack that could have proved disastrous at Christmastime in 1944.
We wonder what the outcome would have been had they told Patton, “Sorry, sir, but this is Christmas and we don’t think it’s fair that some of us have to work on it.”
