N.H. Secretary of State Bill Gardner secured his 22nd term Wednesday in a dramatic second-round vote among legislators at the Statehouse.
He will remain the longest-serving secretary of state in the country and oversee the 2020 elections.
Gardner succeeded in fending off fellow Democrat and former executive councilor Colin Van Ostern — his first challenger since 1984 — in a 209-205 secret ballot vote during a joint session of the N.H. House and Senate.
