Family medical leave bill clears first House vote

A family medical leave insurance program that would be paid for by payroll deduction cleared the state House of Representatives in a 199-133 vote on Wednesday, keeping the legislation alive for consideration by another House committee and possible merger with a similar bill working its way through the Senate.

Some form of paid family medical leave insurance is likely to emerge from the session that ends in June, with two proposals in the Legislature — one from the House and one from the Senate.
