The House Criminal Justice Committee took up an unusual topic on Tuesday — the behavior of its own members — with a call for improved decorum from committee chair Rep. Renny Cushing, D-Hampton.
Cushing said the committee has come under fire for the conduct of members at public hearings on gun control bills and for behavior during a recent tour of the state prison, where one member attempted to bring ammunition into the building.
“As chair, I get to hear a lot of commentary about things that take place by individuals and on things the committee does as a whole, and there are a couple of things that come to mind,” said Cushing at the outset of a meeting called to discuss “committee process,” according to the House calendar.
