A bill that would forbid school employees from testifying in court in some cases is drawing criticism over what opponents say would be an erosion of rights.

The bill was introduced in response to the case of former school counselor Kristie Torbick, who was convicted of sexually assaulting a student while working in Exeter. Former colleagues of hers testified on her behalf while she was being sentenced, leading to widespread criticism from community members.
