The net property value in the city has surged past $1 billion, helping reduce the city’s tax rate by an eye-popping $6.13 per $1,000 of assessed value for 2019. Taxpayers won’t necessarily see lower bills, however.
Tax bills, which city officials expect to send out as soon as this week, will increase for some property owners, decrease for others and stay roughly the same for some. The owners of multiple-family homes are more likely to see an increase than owners of other properties, according to city officials, because the assessed value of these properties went up more than others on average.
