The ongoing homework debate in Merrimack will continue into the April election when voters will have an opportunity to voice their opinions on whether homework should be factored into a student’s grade.
A citizen petitioned warrant article will be placed on the school district ballot asking residents if the school system should amend its homework protocol and allow teachers to decide whether homework grades should be factored into students’ final grades.
The current homework protocol, which was adjusted about two years ago, discontinued grading homework. Although homework is still assigned, school officials say the change has one goal: to better evaluate the academic skills that a student can or cannot do without inflating or deflating their grade.
