Locals are mourning a longtime Republican leader and devoted community member, as 18-year county commissioner Kate Pratt died just before the new year.

Pratt, 72, died Dec. 29 unexpectedly, according to her obituary, and loved ones attended a wake on Sunday that drew people from the various parts of the local community and county government.

In addition to serving as a county commissioner from 1997 to 2014, she was also a state representative, involved in the Hampton Historical Society, a sexton in the Hampton Congregational Church, an actor at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre and part of the Hampton Garden Club.
