The city Fire & Rescue Department is expected to receive a grant of more than $18,000 for the purchase of “leave behind kits” to help deal with the opiate problem in the city.

Fire Chief Paul Haas said the City Council must first officially accept the grant, and then the department will be able to purchase the kits.

“The kits will be available for first responders who respond to drug-related calls,” Haas said Monday. “Not only will they include Narcan, but also additional resources to help people as we continue to deal with the opiate misuse problem.”
