Confessed killer wanted cruiser ride to court, claiming van causes ‘panic reaction’

A man who admitted to murdering a woman and setting a fire inside her Exeter mobile home last year wanted to be brought to Wednesday’s sentencing in a cruiser or SUV instead of a traditional inmate cargo van because the conditions inside the darkened vehicle give him “panic reactions,” court documents said.

Rockingham County Superior Court Judge Andrew Schulman last week denied Derek William Webber’s request for an alternate form of transportation for the 5-mile trip from the county jail to the courthouse after a motion was filed by David M. Rothstein, director of litigation for the New Hampshire Public Defender’s Office.
