The judge who handed down consecutive sentences totaling 22½ to 65 years to a former boxer convicted of beating a female police officer is now deciding whether he should be released after serving 16 years in prison.
Richard Edson, 51, formerly of Laconia, qualifies under state law to have his remaining time behind bars suspended. He has served two-thirds of his original sentence for second-degree assault, escape, DWI and driving after being declared a habitual offender.
