The states of Maine and New Hampshire and municipalities including York and Portsmouth have taken steps to ban the use of certain types of plastics.
Public enemy number one at both the state and local level is the plastic grocery bag, often labeled a single-use plastic bag, which is not easily recycled and damages the environment both when intact and as it decomposes.
Last week, the New Hampshire House voted to ban the use of the bags in the state and to make plastic straws available only upon request by the consumer.
